Kathmandu, October 25

Japan has extended a grant assistance worth Rs 1.08 billion to repair the BP Highway, the road connecting Kathmandu with eastern Terai.

The Japanese government had funded the construction of 160 kilometre road earlier.

The two governments signed an agreement in this regard at the Ministry of Finance this morning. Nepal’s Finance Secretary Rajan Khanal and Japanese Ambassador Masamichi Saigo signed the contact on behalf of their governments respectively.

The road had sustained several damages during the 2015 earthquake.

Speaking at the signing ceremony today, Ambassador Masamichi said it was one of the biggest grant supports that Japan extended to Nepal.

He said 20 major damaged points had already been identified along the road and the repairing would begin at the earliest.

The road from Dhulikhel of Kavre to Bardibas of Mahottari has been divided into five sections for the task, according to him.
