Kathmandu, July 6
Final efforts of the Election Commission to save the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal from a split have failed as both sides say they cannot be one party anymore.
They have instead urged the commission to give legal recognition as the JSPN to one side so that the other side can begin a process to register a new party.
After the two sides sought recognition from the constitutional body claiming they took action against the other side, the commission had called both sides for a discussion on Tuesday in its formal efforts to save the unity. But, the attempts failed.
The party formed in April 2020 with a dramatic merger between the then Rastriya Janata Party and Sanghiya Samajbadi Party is splitting as a group is supporting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives whereas the other is against it.
