JSPN on the verge of split as the Bhattarai-Yadav faction removes Thakur, Mahato from the party
Kathmandu, June 1
Amid the volatile political situation in the country, a major force in national politics, Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal, has reached the verge of a split with one faction of the party removing leaders belonging to the other faction.
The party formed in April 2020 with a dramatic merger between the then Rastriya Janata Party and Sanghiya Samajbadi Party is splitting as a group is supporting Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and preparing to join his government.
Whereas Mahantha Thakur and Rajendra Mahato have expedited talks with Oli, the other faction led by Baburam Bhattarai and Upendra Yadav removed them from the general membership of the party. Along with Thakur and Mahato, Laxman Lal Karna and Sarvendra Nath Shukla have also been expelled.
Leader Mohammad Istiyak Rai says the Election Commission has already been informed of the decision.
Currently, both factions have claimed they are legitimate party bodies. Hence, the Thakur-Mahato faction is also likely to take action against Bhattarai and Yadav.
