Phapar’s dhindo or marsi brown rice?
The food cooked in the kitchen of Jukot Durbar Restaurant can attract more than other restaurants because the ingredients used here are brought from Bajura. Marsi brown rice, sisno (nettle), gundruk, black beans, jimbu and apple pickle, all are brought here from Bajura.
Owner Amrit Shahi says, “We prepare food from the grain produced in our home and yard.”
Apart from that, the Thakali food set and phapar’s momo with ghee are popular items here. “The aim is to serve food similar to the food cooked in a rural kitchen,” says Shahi, “Because such food is not easily available in the city.”
In addition, there are many other types of food available as snacks at Jukot.
Other attractions
According to Shahi, the pickled apple served here is flavourful and one cannot find the same taste anywhere else. “This pickle is made by my mother,” says Shahi.
Another significant feature is Nepali food is served at any time of the night. Even if you arrive in the middle of the night, you will be served a hot meal.
“Most of the restaurants here are closed, even if you have a craving for Nepali dal-bhat at night, you won’t get it anywhere else except here,” says Shahi “There is free parking for customers at Jukot.”
