As many as 60 people including doctors and employees of the Karnali Institute of Health Sciences (KAHS) have resigned collectively and submitted their resignation to Vice-Chancellor Mangal Rawal on Wednesday evening.
Doctors said that the main reason for the resignation en masse was the arrest warrant issued against Dr Karan Sah, who was beaten while working in the emergency department on August 18.
Dr Sah was assaulted by Dhan Bahadur Shahi, an employee of the institution. Sah was reported for neglecting and discriminating against a child, Bikram Shahi, admitted to the hospital.
Dr Sah filed a complaint at the Jumla District Police Office saying that he was assaulted while on duty. But, on Tuesday, after the District Court issued an arrest warrant to arrest Dr Sah, the doctors and staff suddenly became suspicious.
Doctors and staff who have submitted their collective resignation have stopped all services except for emergencies, informed the spokesperson of the hospital, Dr Ramesh Bhattarai.
After the video of Dr Shah being assaulted in the emergency room came out, the doctors protested and demanded action against Shahi.
