Karnali Yashvis, the champions of the Everest Women’s Volleyball League (EWVL) 2024, have been awarded Rs 700,000 in prize money.
The organisers had not announced the prize before the final, but during the post-final award ceremony, the winners, Karnali, were presented with a trophy and a check for Rs 700,000. The runners-up, Lalitpur Queens, received Rs 300,000.
In the final of Nepal’s first women’s volleyball franchise league, Karnali secured the title by defeating Lalitpur Queens 3-2 in a competitive match on Saturday.
Karnali took an early lead by winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-20. However, Lalitpur made a strong comeback, claiming the third and fourth sets 25-12 and 25-18 to level the match at 2-2. Karnali clinched the decisive fifth set 15-13 to win the game.
Led by captain Sumitra Regmi, Karnali remained unbeaten throughout the league, winning all six matches, including the final.
Turkish player Zeynep Outran, who played a crucial role in Karnali’s championship run, was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP). She was named Player of the Match in three games, including the final.
Zeynep received Rs 20,000 as the MVP award.
