Kathmandu, July 1
The Kathmandu metropolitan city has banned begging in public in the capital city.
In a public notice on Friday, the city government says the decision will come into effect after the next 10 days and if anyone is found begging in public after that, action will be taken as per the law.
The notice says children cannot be employed for the purpose of begging.
It assures the stakeholders that the city government will manage helpless people found on the street appropriately with the help of Manav Sewa Ashram, a humanitarian NGO.
The notice, however, clarifies sadhus, monks and similar other people will not be barred from asking for alms, door to door, for religious purposes.
