Kathmandu, September 22
Three persons died when a mountaineering expedition company’s office caught fire in Kapan, Budhanilakantha municipality-11, on the northern outskirts of Kathmandu on Wednesday evening.
The victims are yet to be identified, informs the District Police Range Chief Bharat Bahadur Bohora.
The company, Elite Exped, is known to be owned by world-famous mountaineers including Nirmal Purja Magar aka Nimsdai, Mingma David Sherpa and Mingma Tenzi Sherpa.
Preliminary investigations suggest oxygen cylinders stored there for future expeditions had exploded to ignite the fire.
Firefighters assisted by locals and security personnel contained the fire in a couple of hours. They also rescued people residing on the upper floors to safety.
