Kathmandu, January 24
Federal Socialist Forum Nepal has decided to launch a Kathmandu-centric movement and give continuity to the sit-in along parts of the India-Nepal border.
Sunday’s meeting of the forum, which is part of the United Democratic Madheshi Front that’s been staging a movement in Nepal’s southern plains, concluded that the KP Oli government is not serious enough towards talks aimed at addressing the movement. Forum President Upendra Yadav said after the meeting that they have decided to intensify the movement as the government does not seem to have taken talks (with the UDMF) seriously.
“We have decided to join forces with several identity-centric forces to intensify the Kathmandu-centric movement and turn it into a national movement,” Yadav said. At the same time, the forum said yesterday’s constitution amendments are unacceptable as they do not address the demands of the Madhesh movement.
The forum accused the government of promoting communalism by forcing certain groups to organise programmes in places like Rangeli.
The meeting demanded withdrawal of cases filed against (cadres) involved in the Madhesh movement and formation of a high-level judicial commission, forum Vice-president Lal Babu Raut informed.
