Kathmandu, July 14
Kathmandu District Court has refused to register a same-sex marriage.
Judge Madhav Prasad Mainali’s bench refused to register same-sex marriage stating there were no legal grounds to do so as both of them were of the same gender.
This defies the Supreme Court’s orders that had asked the government to give temporary registration to same-sex marriages until favourable laws were made.
However, Mainali, in his order, said the marriage could be registered, as the two were not heterosexual.
The LGBTIQA+ community said it will go to a higher court to contest this decision.
