Kathmandu, April 2

Police in Kathmandu on Friday detained a group of youth activities who staged a protest demanding the government announce a climate emergency and a public health emergency considering the deteriorated climate condition in Kathmandu.

The protesters showed placards that read messages like ‘the Environment Ministry is missing’ in front of the federal government’s headquarters, Singhadarbar. However, police detained them citing demonstrations were banned in the area.

A few days ago, the air quality of Kathmandu and other parts of the country had significantly deteriorated owing to multiple incidents of forest fires among others.

However, sporadic rains on Wednesday and Thursday have somehow improved the conditions.
