The Nepal Army that has been constructing the ambitious Kathmandu-Terai fast track to connect the capital with the southern plains of the country says the project will be over by January 2025.
The initial deadline of the project was September 2021. However, owing to several factors, the project will complete just 21 per cent of the work by the end of this fiscal year (mid-July 2022), according to the army.
Yet, Bikas Pokharel, the project director, says the army was committed to completing the work on time as per the extended deadline.
The toughest part of the project, tunnel construction, has not yet begun, but the design has been completed, according to Pokharel.
“The design is being reviewed, but once the tunnel construction begins, we will also begin constructing bridges,” he said in a press meeting in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Pokharel said efforts were underway to remove the obstruction imposed by locals of Khokana, the entry point of the fast track on the Kathmandu side.
“For now, we will just leave the 11-km section on that side aside and continue other works.”
