Chief of Army Staff General Purna Chandra Thapa says the force is keeping watchful eye over forces that are underminig the country’s integrity.
Addressing a programme organised at the army HQ in Kathmandu on the occasion of Dashain, Thapa said,”As of now, the government believes that curbing the activities of forces undermining national integrity is within the capacity of the police, and it is not under own domain, But, we are keeping a close watch. The army is ready whenever the state calls on us.”
He said that such issues should be resolved at the political level. “The state has many alternatives. The army will fulfill its responsibilities enshrined in the constitution,” he added. On corruption allegations levelled against army officials, Thapa said that there were mechanisms in place within the army to control corruption. “Ther are aspects that need our attention. But lone efforts by the army is not enough.”
