Provincial lawmakers of Sudurpaschim are on a long vacation as the provincial legislature is yet to commence a new winter session for the want of sufficient business.
Some lawmakers are busy with formal events like seminars and training whereas some are visiting other provinces. Likewise, other lawmakers are meeting their cadres in respective constituencies.
It has been four-and-a-half months since the last assembly closed the last session. In the gap since then, the provincial government has not registered any bill for discussion during the next session. That is why the government has not taken any initiative to convene the meeting.
The constitution requires the provincial assembly to begin the next session within six months since the end of the previous session. “But we will not let the gap go that long,” the ruling Nepal Communist Party’s chief whip Tara Lama Tamang says, “We are discussing the issue with the government.”
Provincial speaker Arjun Bahadur Thapa says the new session will be summoned by mid-January. He informs that he will urge the chief minister Trilochan Bhatta to summon the session at the earliest once the government leader will come back to the province from Kathmandu.
He claims that the government failed to register any bill despite his repeated calls to provide business. “I hope a few bills will be registered in the next days,” Thapa maintains.
