Kathmandu, January 27

Nepal’s governemnt says it will hold political deliberations over a report prepared by the local bodies’ restructuring commission, formed to recommend the boundaries of villages and municipalities in the country.

The commission was formed by the erstwhile Oli government as per provisions in the new constitution.

A meeting of the Cabinet on Friday decided to hold discussions with political parties on the report, and to come up with a consensus, the government’s spokesperson Ram Karki said.

The commission has recommended that the government establish total 719 local level structures across Nepal while implementing federalism in line with the Constitution promulgated in 2015 September.

In the report, the government has been urged to establish four metropolitan cities, 12 sub-metropolitan cities, 241 municipalities and 462 village institutions (gaunpalikas).
