Kathmandu, June 15
The government has decided to postpone the local level elections in Province 2 till September 18.
Provinces 1, 5 and 7 will hold the polls on June 28 as fixed earlier.
The government decision aims to woo the agitating Rastriya Janata Party Nepal to the polls. However, the party has not yet assured its participation in the polls.
The decision to postpone the polls was made during a meeting held between leaders of major ruling parties and the RJPN.
Now, a Cabinet meeting will endorse the decision.
Earlier, the Election Commission had warned of political disaster if the polls were postponed.
Nomination date also deferred
Meanwhile, the government also deferred the date of filing nominations for the June 28 elections by two days.
Now, the candidates will file the nominations on Sunday, June 18.
