Janakpurdham, January 17
The Province 2 government has declared the public holiday in the province for Monday. The government says the holiday was announced to commemorate the Madhes Movement Memorial Day.
Since the formation of the provincial government in early 2018, the government has been celebrating the day with several functions. In the past two years, the government had organised grand functions in Lahan and Birgunj respectively.
This time, the function would be held in Janakpurdham.
A student named Ramesh Mahato was killed in a police firing in Lahan of Siraha on January 19, 2007 (Magh 5, 2063 as per the Nepali calendar). After that, the movement had started.
