Kathmandu, July 31
Social entrepreneur Mahabir Pun, who is raising funds for the establishment of a National Innovation Center, has announced through Facebook that he will donate 28 ropanis of his land, located at Thulakot Danda, Kaski, for the cause.
He said the land bought 20 years ago together with Padam Rai of Banbare is now worth Rs 30 million.
While purchasing the land, we had agreed to use it for the benefit of communities, Pun, the brains behind the Nepal Wireless Networking Project, Ramon Magsaysay Award winner and Ashoka fellow (2002), said.
Pun said: In keeping with this understanding, I am donating the land. The land was in Rai’s name. A few months ago, Rai, who is based in America, transferred the land ownership in my name.
Pun has also posted the land ownership certificate in his Facebook account.
‘This land is all I have in the name of property and I am donating it. I will dedicate the rest of my life (too) for national development.’
Pun unveiled plans to sell off part of the land and raise funds, if the need arises, for the development of physical infrastructure that the center requires. The social entrepreneur had sought help from government for the construction of the innovation center, to no avail. Pun has appealed members of the public to help him realise his dream.
The center plans to provide time, capital and training if innovators come up with promising ideas.
