The CPN-Maoist Centre, the second biggest constituent of the leftist alliance, is likely to get a chance to field its candidates in 56 of total 165 constituencies across the country for House of Representatives elections, sources privy to recent discussions say.
Though the UML had agreed to provide 40 per cent of total constituencies to the Maoists, the distribution between the two would be done on the basis of the constituencies remaining after allocating shares for Naya Shakti, rebel leaders of Rastriya Janata Party Nepal who have agreed to contest with the UML symbols and other fringe parties to join the group, according to the sources.
Therefore though 40 per cent of 165 is 66, the Maoists will get quite less constituencies.
The parties are working on the distribution in all provinces. The Maoists are likely to get almost half of total constituencies in provinces 2 and 6, where it is stronger than the UML and less than half in other five constituencies.
