Municipalities in Bajura prepare action plans for promotion of safe motherhood

Kathmandu, December 16

Three municipalities of Bajura have prepared an action plan for the promotion of safe maternity and reproductive health rights.

Badimalika municipality, Budhiganga municipality and Gaumul rural municipality of Bajura have prepared an action plan including various programs for the promotion of safe maternity and reproductive health rights.

The municipal-level action plan was prepared with the participation of the mayor, deputy mayor, ward chair, executive members, executive heads, health branch coordinators and other public representatives of the three municipalities.

Ram Bahadur Bania, mayor of Budhiganga municipality, said that the action plan has been prepared keeping in mind the program areas specified in the International Conference on Sustainable Development, Population and Environment (ICPD+25) and the national and international commitments of the Government of Nepal.

The participants of the program also said that the programmes of the prepared action plan will be prioritised through the winter session and included in the annual policy and plan and budget.

Maternal mortality rate, malnutrition, child marriage, chaupadi system are still high in Bajura, which is at the bottom of the human development index.

The aim of the programme is to uplift the lives of women in the region.
