Galeswar, March 17
Girl students sitting for this year’s Secondary Education Examinations or SEE in Myagdi will receive sanitary pads along with their question papers during the examinations, officials said.
The Social Development Ministry of Gandaki province will distribute sanitary pads to girl students during the exams which begin on March 24. The initiative was launched considering the high number of dropouts among girl students during their periods, according to Chief Women’s Development Officer at the Ministry Tulasa Aryal. A budget of Rs. 15,000 has been allocated for the purpose.
“The distribution of sanitary pads is also aimed at ensuring that menstruation does not affect the girl students’ participation in the SEE,” Aryal said. Of the 2,242 students attending the SEE in Myagdi, 1,111 are girls.
