Nagarik Bimarsh Samuh mourns the loss of Dhungana

The Nagarik Bimarsh Samuh has expressed grief over the passing of Daman Nath Dhungana, a prominent voice for Nepal’s citizens, political leader, constitutional expert, and the first Speaker of the House of Parliament after Nepal’s 1990 democratic transition.

Dhungana died on Sunday while undergoing treatment at Frontline Hospital. Dhungana was receiving treatment for liver-related complications. 

Dhungana was instrumental in drafting the interim constitution and advocating for the Constituent Assembly, playing a crucial role in the peace process between the Maoist rebels and the State. He remained active until his last days, contributing to dialogues on political stability and constitutional reform.

Nagarik Bimarsh Samuh extends heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones, honouring his legacy of leadership and dedication to Nepali democracy.

“We express our deepest condolence to his spouse, family and loved ones, and all who walked with him in the journey of Life and all whose lives he touched through his leadership, vision and humility,” read the release of Nagarik Bimarsh Samuh. “May his legacy inspire the younger generation to dare take challenges of life and dedicate themselves to the service of society and their deep-seated ideals! May his soul rest in eternal peace!”

The Nagarik Bimarsh Samuh, comprised of members Kedar Bhakta Mathema, Malla K Sundar, Shyam Shrestha, Deependra Bahadur Kshetry, Parshuram Tamang, Min Bahadur Shrestha, Sharad Onta, Geeta Tripathi, Bindu Sharma, Kailash Rai, Pradeep Bomjan, Govind Chhantyal, Rajendra Maharjan, and Mahesh Maskey.
