Doko Recyclers is hosting one of the biggest e-waste events today, at Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Khumaltar.
The event is being organised to educate the public about the harmful effects of e-waste and emphasise the need for responsible e-waste management practices.
According to the organisers, the event is important in order to raise awareness about recycling on the occasion of World Environment Day which is celebrated on June 5 every year.
The organisers want to bring together all relevant stakeholders and educate the public on the possibilities of reusing, repairing, recycling, redesigning, and rethinking electrical and electronic devices.
It also aims to create awareness among policymakers about the need for better environmentally and socially sustainable management practices.
The event highlights knowledge dissemination on possibilities and practices of systematic collection and management, as well as dialogues to identify potential areas of collaboration between experts and stakeholders in Nepal.
It will have an exhibition on sustainability, along with workshops for hands-on experience for repair and learning.
This event is a significant step towards addressing the growing problem, and it is critical to promoting a sustainable and healthy environment. The organisers stress that people need to act now as given the amount of electronic waste has been estimated to double in 16 years globally as per Global E-Waste Monitor.
