Kathmandu, February 19
Nepal marked its 75th Democracy Day on Wednesday, commemorating the historic revolution that ended the 104-year-long Rana regime and introduced democracy to the nation.
A special event was organized at Tundhikhel, where Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli highlighted the significance of the day, emphasizing the sacrifices made by past generations to establish democracy in the country.
“The country received democracy through the struggle of our ancestors, and the young generation should not forget their sacrifices,” said Oli.
He contrasted the autocratic rule of the past with the achievements of democracy, stating, “The autocratic rulers built palaces for their younger generations, but democracy has given the people bridges, roads, schools, and electricity.”
Democracy Day is observed annually in Nepal to honor the revolution that overthrew the Rana regime and paved the way for a democratic governance system.
