Kathmandu, June 30
Nepal-China trade via the Tatopani border point in the Sindhupalchok district has been obstructed for the past two weeks as the road damaged by floods and landslides has not been cleared yet.
Consequently, several consumer goods, as well as medical supplies meant for the country’s Covid-19 response, have been stuck halfway at the border point.
Traders have blamed the government’s negligence for reopening the route whereas the Department of Roads says there have been some natural difficulties.
The department’s Deputy Director-General Shiva Prasad Nepal says some sections of the road have been caved in due to the Bhotekoshi river flowing below whereas other sections have seen several landslides.
“If there is no more rainfall troubling us, we will resume the operation in the next five days,” he says.
The road is obstructed since June 16.
