Kathmandu, October 19
In just the past month, Nepal has successfully exported electricity worth Rs 4.02 billion to India. This impressive figure adds to the total of nearly Rs 12 billion in electricity sales to India since May.
Over the course of three months, the average rate of electricity exported to India stands at Rs 10.27 per unit. In May, electricity amounting to Rs 400 million was exported to India in just five days, followed by an impressive export of Rs 1.757 billion in June. The average rate of electricity export to India for May and June was recorded at Rs 9.67 per unit.
The Nepal Electricity Authority has been actively exporting surplus electricity to India that is saved during the rainy season, after meeting domestic demands. Approximately 110 MW of electricity has been sold to India through competitive channels in the day-ahead market of the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), as well as under the medium-term power agreement. The electricity being exported to India is mainly being used in Haryana.
