Nepal’s Department of Immigration has shut services at its central office in Kathmandu from Monday until the next notice as one of the staff there contracted Covid-19.
Recently, swab samples of 57 employees of the department were collected for polymerase chain reaction tests, among which one tested positive, informs the department’s Director-General Ramesh Kumar KC.
“We have shut all the services except emergency ones,” he says, “Now, we are tracing contracts of the infected employee and they will be tested soon.”
Though the central office has been closed, the immigration office inside the Tribhuvan International Airport is functioning. KC says the staff of the airport office are also being tested, suggesting it could also be shut if there is a coronavirus infection case is found.
