The government of Nepal is preparing to legally recognise e-commerce businesses for the first time in history.
Although the history of online businesses is more than two-decades-long in Nepal, there was not a law dedicated to this sector. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies has finalised a draft of a bill to regulate the e-commerce sector.
Owing to the lack of law, the government occasionally cracked down on such businesses in the past.
As per the provisions proposed in the bill, customers can get a refund if the e-commerce businesses deliver them damaged goods.
Already existing e-commerce businesses need to register themselves with the government within one year from the enactment of the law whereas all new businesses should register before the operation.
A violation of the law will result in legal action at the District Court, the bill proposes.
