Kathmandu, September 15
Giving new data about Nepal vulture population, a new nationwide count of seven species of vultures has recorded 2,312 individuals across the country.
Bird Conservation Nepal, an NGO, says the count was conducted on the occasion of International Vulture Awareness Day that is celebrated on the first Saturday of September.
Kriti Nepal, the organisation’s policy advocacy officer, says the number recorded this year is a significant increase from the past years as there were 1,905 and 1,816 individuals recorded in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

The organisation clarifies migrant griffon vulture (GV) and vagrant Indian vulture (IV) were not assessed during the survey and only seven species out of nine vulture species known in Nepal were sighted during the count.
