Nepali Congress continues protest against CIAA in House, on streets

Nepali Congress lawmakers obstruct the House of Representatives meeting, on Friday, July 27, 2018.

Kathmandu, February 9

The main opposition Nepali Congress party obstructed a meeting of the House of Representatives on Sunday also. The party had obstructed the House meetings on Thursday and Friday last week.

The party has been claiming that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority’s decision to indict the parliamentary party’s deputy leader Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar on a corruption case is politically motivated whereas some people close to the ruling party allegedly involved in the case got spared.

Gachhadar was one among 175 defendants indicted in a charge-sheet that the anti-corruption constitutional body registered at the Special Court on Wednesday last week for their alleged involvement in the notorious Baluwatar land grab case.

Following the obstruction, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota adjourned the meeting for Tuesday.

Meanwhile, sister organisations of the party staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala on Sunday afternoon. They also chanted slogans against the government, the ruling party, and the CIAA.
