Nepali Congress launching street movement against KP Oli government

Kathmandu, April 5

Nepali Congress, the main opposition, is launching a street-based movement against the KP Oli government by mobilising organisations affiliated to it. The Congress has told its affiliates to go for an anti-government agitation, pointing that the government has failed to provide relief to earthquake victims at a time when black marketing and inflation have been hitting the public hard. On Tuesday, Nepal Women’s Association, Nepal Tarun Dal and Nepal Students’ Union organised an interaction regarding preparations for the movement.

At the interaction, Govinda Raj Pokharel, former CEO of the National Reconstruction Authority, said: Neither the authority will be able to build houses for quake victims nor will it be able to rebuild heritage sites, if it continues to work at the current pace.  Therefore, the main opposition should launch a protest programme without delay, he said.

At the programme, Ranjit Karna, NSU president, noted that people have been reeling under black marketing of petroleum products, though import from India has been smooth. So, we are launching a street-based movement against the government, Karna said. At the interaction, participants also accused the government of shielding black marketers and stressed the need to launch an anti-government stir.
