Kathmandu, January 23
Businesspersons in the New Road area have shut up shop as a sign of protest after Kathmandu Metropolitan City banned roadside vehicle parking from today.
They have asked the local ward office to reconsider the decision claiming it impacts their business negatively.
The city banned parking on blacktopped roads in and around Dharmapath, Indrachowk, Khichapokhari, Mahabouddha and Bir Hospital.
As an alternative, the city has said it will provide free parking facilities at Kathmandu Tower (former Old Bus Park).
Earlier, a similar prohibition on vehicle parking was imposed by the city in the Jhonche area.
The city said it was doing to make the New Road area better and ease traffic.
