Kathmandu, June 3
A dispute has emerged between the Road Department and the city police concerning the roadworks in the New Road area.
On Monday morning, the Road Department began paving the road that had been dug up by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) to expand footpaths. The situation escalated when the city police arrived, leading to a confrontation between the two parties.
Currently, discussions are underway between officials from the city police and the Road Department to resolve the issue.
The KMC had initially excavated the road to widen the footpaths in the New Road area. However, the Divisional Road Office instructed KMC to halt their activities and restore the road to its original state. When the KMC refused to comply, a team from the Divisional Road Office took matters into their own hands and commenced paving the road this morning.
The conflict underscores the ongoing challenges and lack of coordination between city authorities and road management agencies in urban development projects.
