Newly elected Nepal Bar President vows to contribute to Constitutional Amendment

Kathmandu, April 10

Newly elected President of the Nepal Bar Association, Bijay Prasad Mishra, has pledged to work towards establishing an independent and fair judiciary.

Following the announcement of final election results on Thursday, Mishra gave a brief statement expressing his commitment.

“We will move forward united, bringing everyone in the Bar together. All disputes leading up to the election are now over,” he stated. “Our focus will be on strengthening an independent and transparent judiciary.”

Mishra emphasised that the Bar’s constitution will serve as the guiding document during his tenure, and he committed to working for the rights and interests of young and female legal professionals.

“The Bar’s constitution is our main agenda. We will undertake special initiatives to protect the interests of young and women legal practitioners,” he said during victory celebrations at the Supreme Court Bar premises.

He also affirmed that the Bar Association would play a role in constitutional amendments.

“We will contribute to the process of constitutional amendments. The ongoing activities of the Nepal Bar Association will be streamlined and continued,” Mishra added.

Senior advocate Mishra secured victory with 5,052 votes. He was the joint candidate of the Nepali Congress–CPN-UML alliance. His main contender, senior advocate Ramesh Kumar Shrestha—supported by the CPN (Maoist Centre) and other parties—received 2,621 votes.
