Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi says his party can win around 100 local units out of total 127 in Province 2 that will hold local level elections in September.

Nidhi’s statement comes after the largest party in central Parliament was pushed to the second position at the local level after polls in six other provinces.

As results from 616 local units have been out, the difference of top-position wins between the CPN-UML and Nepali Congress is 49.

Therefore, Nidhi wants to change the equation by leaving very few seats to the UML for win in the core Terai.

The most powerful Madheshi leader in the Congress, Nidhi expressed his confidence while addressing party leaders of Province 2 in Kathmandu today.

“We are behind the UML by around 50 seats in the first and second phases. If my opinion is not exaggeration,” he said, “I propose that we shall win in 100 places. We have a responsibility to make the Congress a first party again.”

He also suggested that the party form alliances with the CPN-Maoist Centre and the Rastriya Janata Party Nepal to defeat the UML.
