Kathmandu, June 17
Nine organisations representing various social groups have launched a joint protest programme against the Public Service Commission after the constitutional body did not heed a directive from the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of Parliament.
The House committee last week had directed the Commission to cancel a vacancy announcement notice calling applications for around 10,000 positions at the local level citing it did not adhere to the legal provision about reservations of various groups.
The Commission, however, has been insisting that it is not obliged to obey the directive as the notice was lawful. It has continued accepting applications and so far around 160,000 people have applied, according to media reports.
Therefore, the organisations representing indigenous communities, Dalits, women, Madheshis and people with disabilities have formed an alliance and launched a protest.
If the Commission does not withdraw the notice by Tuesday, a stern protest will be launched, they have warned.
Meanwhile, the organisations informed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli about their plan via Nepal Communist Party’s deputy parliamentary party leader Subas Chandra Nembang.
