Kathmandu, February 26
The Nepal Medical Council is soon starting an investigation into Prithvi Malla, an accused of a notorious hit-and-run case in Budhanilakantha of Kathmandu on December 14, after it has been revealed that he has been staying in a hospital with the pretence that he is not well. The NMC will be investigating also into the doctors involved in Malla’s ‘treatment’, a source says.
Doctors of Chirayu Hospital, where he is admitted, have shown reluctance to discharge Malla, saying he has irregular blood pressure. He has been staying in the hospital for some 45 days soon after the Kathmandu District Court had remanded him in custody for his alleged involvement in the December 14 car accident that killed a woman.
Malla was first taken to the custody. However, upon reaching there, he faked to be unconscious, after which he was rushed to Bir Hospital. Then, the hospital referred the case to Chirayu.
According to Gajendra Bahadur Shrestha, the Director-General of the Department of Prison Management, the investigation was induced after Dillibazaar Jail, where he was kept in custody, about the unusual turns of events.
The said report has also been sent to the Home Ministry, informs the source. The spokesperson at the ministry, Kedar Nath Sharma, has informed that the department is also investigating the case separately. The ministry is active to discourage such behaviour to avoid custody remand or jail time, says an official of the ministry.
