Citing the risks of the Covid-19 spread, this year’s Janai Purnima festival, on August 22, in Panch Pokhari has been cancelled. The festival was cancelled last year for the same reasons.
Panch Pokhari Thangpaal rural municipality said the festival was cancelled as gatherings are a hotspot for possible Covid-19 outbreak.
On the occasion of Janai Purnima, devotees from far and wide reach Panch Pokhari to mark the occasion and make offerings. The devotees pay a visit wishing for a prosperous harvest. Similarly, females devotees are known to pay a visit and pray to Lord Shiva wishing for a suitable husband whereas married women pray for child(ren).
The landmark that gets the name for five adjacent lakes is situated some 4,060 metres above the sea level.
