Kathmandu, August 27
The Non-Resident Nepali Association has demanded that the government repatriate all Nepalis stranded abroad due to the Covid-19 crisis without any discrimination.
Speaking in a virtual meeting of the Women and Social Committee in the House of Representatives on Thursday, the NRNA spokesperson DB Chhetri said, “The state should not say who is a worker and who is not while returning them to Nepal. The government did not include undocumented workers in repatriation. But, after all, they were also Nepalis.”
He suggested the government should not hesitate to spend money on repatriation as the workers had sent remittance to run the country. “The repatriation, overall, costs less than Rs 1 billion. The government has to do it.”
He said Nepali women working as domestic workers in various countries were at a higher risk of contagion from their employers, demanding they be prioritised during the repatriation operation.
