Kathmandu, February 7
Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association has provided medical supplies worth Rs 16 million to the government of Nepal in about four months. Nepal’s hospitals have been reeling under an acute shortage of medical supplies due to the Indian blockade.
NRNA Chair Shesh Ghale handed over the last lot of the supplies to Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa on Sunday. The assistance includes medical supplies from Australia and China.
Non-Resident Nepalis based in Australia and China had provided medical supplies worth $31,674 (inclusive of airfare) and $6,623 (inclusive of airfare).
Nepal Airlines had airlifted these supplies to Kathmandu from Hong Kong for free.
In three phases, the NRNA provided medical supplies worth Rs 1,05,000 to the government, providing supplies worth Rs 5 million Sunday.
By raising funds from Nepalis living in different countries, NRNA had procured medical supplies and airlifted them to Nepal. It had provided the supplies to the Ministry of health, Department of Health Services’ Supply Division as well as zonal hospitals in Janakpur, Narayani and Lumbini.
About two and a half months ago, Ghale had handed over lifesaving drugs to Health and Population Minister Ram Janam Chaudhary in the first phase.
