Kathmandu, July 19
An unidentified gang on Saturday has removed a Nepal-India border pillar near Thori of Parsa, where Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had claimed to be the ‘real’ birthplace of Lord Ram, the hero of the Hindu mythology of Ramayana. However, officials of both countries coordinated to reestablish the pillar after a few hours.
Armed Police Force Inspector Deepak Dahal at Thori Border Outpost says the pillar was re-erected at around 9 pm yesterday, after around five hours of the removal. Earlier, the locals had found the pillar uprooted and thrown nearby.
To solve the problem, the APF outpost had invited a team from the Indian Sashastra Seema Bal from its Narkatiaganj post. “A team led by second-in-command Anil Singh came here and proposed reestablishing the pillar,” Dahal says, “I also coordinated with the district officials here. The district authorities directed me to go ahead in coordination with local people’s representatives.”
Meanwhile, the officials have barred the public from visiting the Sita Cave in the locality after the incident, citing security concerns.
