Kathmandu, April 14
The Supreme Court has issued an order to scrap the provision of annual renewal of online media.
A division bench of justices Deepak Kumar Karki and Sushmalata Mathema on Tuesday issued a directive to annul the rule that online media would be shut if its renewal is not carried out annually.
The apex court order has scrapped the provisions stipulated in clause 6 of the Online Media Operation Directive as it was found against the spirit of the constitution regarding the freedom of expression and the press.
Hearing a writ petition filed by Leelanath Ghimire and Bishnu Kumar Giri, the apex court revoked the online media directive’s provision that stated the service of online media could be shut if their renew was not done per annum.
