Kathmandu, March 23
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Monday endorsed the name of Mahendra Bahadur Pandey, whom the government had nominated for the position of Nepal’s Ambassador to China, unopposed.
A meeting of the committee held in Kathmandu today approved the government plan to appoint the ruling Nepal Communist Party leader and former minister for foreign affairs to the position. Pandey was summoned to the meeting for the hearing.
Speaking in the meeting, Pandey said he would not let Nepal get sandwiched in the diplomatic tussle between the United States and China if he was appointed to the position. Responding to a question asked by the ruling party’s Dev Gurung, Pandey also assured that he would protect Nepal from being affected by the conflict and competition of the big powers.
