PHSC okays four nominees to head different constitutional bodies

A meeting of the Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee, in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018.

Kathmandu, March 5

The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee on Tuesday endorsed nominations of four persons to head different constitutional bodies.

A meeting of the committee comprising members of both houses of the bicameral parliament endorsed the names of Balananda Paudel for the National Natural Resources and Fiscal Commission, Shanta Raj Subedi for the National Inclusive Commission, Bijaya Kumar Datta for the Madheshi Commission and Bishnu Kumar Chaudhary for the Tharu Commission.

It has been learned that the committee has summoned Samim Miya Anasari nominated for the Muslim Commission to the meeting today itself. His named has been dragged into a controversy after his named was found in the closed list of PR candidates of the then CPN-UML for the 2017 parliamentary elections.

The main opposition Nepali Congress has been boycotting the meeting for past few weeks claiming the Constitutional Council made the five nominations without inviting the main opposition leader.

The committee can continue functioning despite the boycott as the ruling Nepal Communist Party commands the majority.
