Kathmandu, March 31
Prime Minister KP Oli is laying the foundation stone of Pokhara international airport on Baishakh 1 (April 13, 2016). Airport construction work is beginning after signing of a loan agreement with China.
The meeting of a high-level Pokhara regional international airport construction committee, held on Thursday, decided to lay the stone coinciding with the Nepali new year. The meeting decided to construct a main committee for the foundation laying ceremony under Member of Parliament Ravindra Adhikari.
The meeting decided to rename Pokhara regional international airport as Pokhara international airport. The meeting thanked all people, who gave the project a push.
On the occasion, Minister for Tourism, Ananda Prasad Pokharel, pledged to address project-affected local people’s concerns. “This project is materialising because the whole of Province 4 has come together for the same,” Pokharel said. “We will need assistance from all sides for construction of the airport,” he said, describing the airport as the engine for economic development of Province 4.
Yuvaraj Khatiwada, vice-chair of the National Planning Commission, said systematic operation of the airport is more important than its construction. He said airport construction is part of a package programme aimed to usher Province 4 into an era of development.
