Kathmandu, November 10
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has started efforts aimed at building understanding on Constitution amendment with political parties. Prachanda, also chair of the CPN-Maoist Centre, is in talks with the main opposition CPN-UML, which has been challenging him to justify Charter amendment. At Singhadurbar on Thursday, Prachanda and UML Chair KP Sharma Oli are holding discussions on the issue at Speaker Onsari Gharti’s office chamber.
The two are discussing ways to take the amendment process to a logical conclusion. On Thursday morning, Prachanda had held talks with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Charter amendment. Deuba had suggested Prachanda to take the UML into confidence on the issue.
At its meeting held on Thursday morning, Maoist headquarters had decided to exercise flexibility on the issue of amendment and given party Chair and PM Prachanda the responsibility of reaching understanding with political parties.
Prachanda had promised to register an amendment proposal in the Parliament right after Chhath. But there has been no progress on this issue. Madheshi Morcha (UDMF) has expressed dissatisfaction over this delay and is engaged in internal discussions to chart out the future course.
