Kathmandu, April 20
Two days ago, Shobhakhar Pokhrel (39) of Kerung-1, Arghakhanchi, lodged a complaint with police, stating that two motorcycle-borne people had robbed him of Rs 3.6 million at New Road after rendering him unconscious and left him to fend for himself, at a jungle in Kirtipur.
In an interesting twist of events, police arrested the ‘victim’ himself two days later.
In course of an investigation, police found that Pokhrel owed the proprietor of Kamdhenu Cow Farm based in Tyangla Fant, Kirtipur, three million rupees. He had bought the farm on credit. That was not all.
He owed another individual six lakh rupees.
Unable to repay a whopping Rs 3.6 million, Pokhrel, who used to run an electronics shop at the CTC Mall in the Capital and live in Tyangla Fant, Kirtipur, thought of a ‘way out’. He weaved a false case of abduction and looting of the sum, portraying himself as the victim. The real case unfurled in course of investigation.
The police investigation found that Pokhrel had left a black bag (which, according to Pokhrel, was the bag containing Rs 3.6 million), a paper cutter and the battery of his mobile phone at a jungle in Kirtipur to make his case convincing. Using the cutter, Pokhrel had inflicted wounds on his legs and hands in a bid to prove that ‘the abductors’ had subjected him to torture. But the police probe ultimately cut through the web of lies and managed to nab the culprit.
