Kathmandu, October 20
Former King Gyanendra Shah has issued a solemn warning to the political leadership.
The former king, speaking at an international Hindu conference in Kathmandu on Thursday, said ‘politics of negation’ promotes marginalisation and can fuel a revolt.
He said: Our philosophy always directs us to move ahead. But if prohibitory politics continues, this will give rise to disequilibrium in the country. This disbalance will give birth to marginalisation, which can give birth to a revolt.
This is the former king’s first public address after the establishment of Nepal as a federal democratic republic.
It will be easy for us to improve the current situation if we do some soul-searching by keeping ourselves between the current situation and our philosophy, he said.
Foreign intervention has increased in the country and ‘extreme pessimism’ has gripped people because of political instability. It’s time people questioned how this situation developed.
On the occasion, the former king said foreign intervention has increased in the country and ‘extreme pessimism’ has gripped people because of political instability. It’s time people questioned how this situation developed, he said.
“Nepal was never defeated and at one time this country was the synonym for world peace and harmony. It’s time for us to think about the situation we are currently in,” he said, adding: Foreign intervention has increased because of the state of the State and political activities. Extreme pessimism that has taken root in the people has become a curse. Every Nepali should question how this situation came about.
He said establishment of lasting peace in Nepal is possible if Nepalis move ahead by upholding Nepal’s unique identity, traditional religions and national sensitivities.
