Naya Shakti Nepal staged a sit-in at Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, on Friday.
The protest was against the 25-point joint communique that Nepal’s Prime Minister Prachanda and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi had issued during Prachanda’s recent four-day visit to India.
The party formed under Baburam Bhattarai said the communique is an act of treason and threatens to push the country towards regression. Points 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 20 are objectionable, the new party said, adding that Point 11 will lead to what it called ‘Bhutanisation’ of Nepal.
It said of the communique: This is an act of sedition and it has made Nepalis bow their heads in shame.
The party accused the government of doing nothing even when market prices were skyrocketing.
