Kathmandu, July 6
Two big organisations representing private school operators of the country have stopped their protest against the government that they had launched demanding that the government provide them relief packages for the losses caused due to the months-long lockdown.
Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal (PABSON) and National Private and Boarding Schools’ Association Nepal (N-PABSAN) say they have stopped the protest as recent meetings with government officials have been positive. PABSON president Tika Ram Puri says the organisations’ representatives met Education Minister Giriraj Mani Pokharel on Sunday, during which Pokharel said the demands could be met.
Recently, the school operators had also urged guardians of their students to pay the fees for the period of lockdown also. However, the government had stopped them. Therefore, the organisations had also demanded that they are allowed to collect the fees so as to pay the teachers and staff and landlords.
Meanwhile, the school operators say they would continue teaching students through alternative means including online classes, radio, and television.
